Better than Concierge by Dr. Q

We have one door and it’s open to everyone. We also happen to meet our patients at the door since there is no wait time.

Our unique approach to primary care provides a higher level service than the average primary care office. The only type of primary care office which even comes close are concierge practices. For the last decade or so, the Midlothian area has only experienced concierge care, and may have more familiarity with those practices. While our level of access makes us sound like concierge care, we have a focus on patient advocacy and community engagement which makes us fundamentally different.

Access

At EuDoc, we seek to make quality care available to everyone. We want to reduce barriers between us and our patients and make care affordable so everyone who needs it can get it. Concierge Medicine makes care more expensive and exclusive, often at the expense of the community. Many people have recently received calls from their primary care physician of years notifying them that now they will have to pay an annual fee to see their doctor. I lost my own primary care doctor a couple years ago with the same phone call. Those who can’t pay the fee are left to find new doctors, while those who can pay get rewarded with special parking spots and even a separate door to remind them how special they are now that they pay a couple thousand dollars extra to see their doctor. We already have an increasingly expensive healthcare system, yet concierge practices still put up a significant paywall between patients and their doctor.

Value

EuDoc members benefit from significantly discounted lab and imaging prices. Often our members pay less with our prices than they would even with insurance coverage. Also, our monthly membership includes all office visits, both in person and telemedicine. Concierge practices will still bill your insurance. That’s right, you have to pay thousands of dollars a year for the privilege of seeing your doctor just to have them bill your insurance every time you see them anyways. We call that double dipping. Many of these practices will also offer “special” labs or imaging which have fairly exorbitant costs and, despite their marketing, do not actually provide any benefit. The doctors generally do not advocate for special pricing for their patients because their focus remains on insurance billing, which means they have no general idea how much things may cost their patients.

The Difference

Concierge practices are simply traditional doctor offices with a gold necklace. They still bill insurance and have to maintain the huge infrastructure with additional administrative costs for their marketing departments. We can offer comprehensive, all inclusive primary care for a reasonable monthly fee by cutting out the insurance middleman. Because we don’t spend all day figuring out insurance codes and worrying about insurance reimbursement, we can focus our attention on making our membership more valuable by adding services and navigating the health system to work better for our patients. Having easy access to quality care should not come at an unreasonable premium and having doctors who advocate for you across the health system can benefit both your physical and financial health.
